Rather than tying together multiple one- or two- socket servers, the 3250 acts as a large, shared-memory machine, reducing server sprawl and complex data reassembly for target workloads such as SAP HANA, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL Server databases, according to HPE.

The server also supports HPE’s Integrated Lights Out (iLO) management technology, which lets customers diagnose and resolve server issues, configure and manage access, and perform a variety of other automated tasks aimed at improving efficiency, according to Krista Satterthwaite, senior vice president and general manager for compute at HPE.

“HPE iLO establishes a silicon root of trust through a dedicated security processor and validated firmware, which safeguards against future threats with post-quantum cryptography,” Satterthwaite stated. “Resiliency features of the HPE Compute Scale-up Server 3250 include advanced memory error detection and correction, as well as memory healing and deconfiguration. Additionally, the server is designed for fault-tolerant uptime, delivering the highest availability for critical business workloads.”

The box competes most closely with IBM Power servers as well as high-end offerings from Dell, Fujitsu and others.
