I’ve been there, you’ve been there, we’ve all been there. Most of us created our first Gmail account more than a decade ago, and since then, we’ve outgrown it. You walk up to a hotel desk, shop at a retailer, or sign up anywhere, and when you have to say your email address out loud, you’re stuck spelling out something childish you made years ago.Worse, you’re stuck using that Gmail address only because it’s been your primary address for years, and now it feels too late to switch to something new. Ravie LakshmananApr 12, 2026Malware / Threat Intelligence Unknown threat actors compromised CPUID (“cpuid[.]com”), a website that hosts popular hardware monitoring tools like CPU-Z, HWMonitor, HWMonitor Pro, and PerfMonitor, for less than 24 hours to serve malicious executables for the software and deploy a remote access trojan called STX RAT. Google has rolled out Device Bound Session Credentials (DBSC) protection in Chrome 146 for Windows, designed to block info-stealing malware from harvesting session cookies. macOS users will benefit from this security feature in a future Chrome release that has yet to be announced. The new protection has been announced in 2024, and it works by cryptographically linking a user’s session to their specific hardware, such as a computer’s security chip – the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) on Windows and the Secure Enclave on macOS. Since the unique public/private keys for encrypting and decrypting sensitive data are generated by the security chip,…

Since I test Android phones for a job, I often jump between premium models and budget ones. I can be doing Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra Privacy Display tests one day, and the next, playing with Iron Man-themed affordable phones. You’d expect to have a better time with a phone that costs more money, and a slightly lesser experience with one that lets you keep some of that cash for yourself. But the difference doesn’t have to be as dramatic as you’d think. Over the years, I’ve perfected a few ways to make a budget phone feel a little more like…

An apparent hack-for-hire campaign likely orchestrated by a threat actor with suspected ties to the Indian government targeted journalists, activists, and government officials across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), according to findings from Access Now, Lookout, and SMEX. Two of the targets included prominent Egyptian journalists and government critics, Mostafa Al-A’sar and Ahmed Eltantawy, who were at the receiving end of a series of spear-phishing attacks that sought to compromise their Apple and Google accounts in October 2023 and January 2024 by directing them to fake pages that tricked them into entering their credentials and two-factor authentication (2FA) codes. “The attacks were carried out…
