Timi has been writing about technology for over a decade, focusing on smartphones, computers, and anything that he finds interesting in the space. He started writing for XDA, covering all things mobile, but has transitioned to covering deals, with a mission to shed light on some of the best discounts around the internet on the greatest tech products.

If you’re someone who operates a home lab, you’ll know that things can break without any reason. While some devices will let you remotely connect, that isn’t an option when things go wrong. So, having a cheap portable monitor as a troubleshooting tool is an obvious choice when it costs just $40.

    Extremely tempting for the price

Yxk Portable Monitor 15.6 Inch paired to Xbox Credit:

If you search for “portable monitors” on Amazon, you’ll find a ton of different options. While you can always splurge by spending hundreds on one from a major brand, we don’t think you need to go this far if you just need something simple and reliable. This one from Yxk costs just $40 right now, and does everything you need on a budget.

And while you may have never heard of the brand, it’s top-rated on Amazon, with nearly 2,000 reviews and an average 4.4-star rating. When it comes to the hardware, you get a large 15.6-inch screen with a 1080p resolution. Despite its compact size, the connections are plentiful, with two USB-C and one Mini HDMI.

There are also physical controls on the monitor that will allow for necessary adjustments. While we like it for home lab use, you can connect this monitor to pretty much anything with a USB-C or HDMI port. That means this monitor can create some extra screen real estate for your laptop, or it can be paired with your Switch 2 for a mobile gaming setup.

Personally, I’ve used a few portable monitors, and while it’s not something I rely on every day, it’s great to have around when you need an extra screen that takes up little space and very little effort to set up. And at just $40, it’s a real no-brainer if you’ve been thinking about picking one up.
