Are ransomware and encryption still the defining signals of modern cyberattacks, or has the industry been too fixated on noise while missing a more dangerous shift happening quietly all around them? According to Picus Labs’ new Red Report 2026, which analyzed over 1.1 million malicious files and mapped 15.5 million adversarial actions observed across 2025, attackers are no longer optimizing for disruption. Instead, their goal is now long-term, invisible access. To be clear, ransomware isn’t going anywhere, and adversaries continue to innovate. But the data shows a clear strategic pivot away from loud, destructive attacks toward techniques designed to evade…

Obsidian is an amazing tool for, well, just about anything. While it’s designed to be a knowledge management system, there are loads of other applications. That said, it does have a few downsides; namely, syncing across devices can be difficult to pull off without paying for a subscription. While there are free options, they aren’t always reliable, and the Obsidian subreddit has recently seen a spate of posts about users losing data when syncing through services like iCloud and Google Drive. Poznote offers nearly all the functionality of Obsidian, with one outstanding perk: it runs entirely in your browser. That…

Docker-containerized ML models execute data discovery and classification locally, maintaining data sovereignty while scanning file repositories, SaaS applications, and inline traffic flows, the authors stated.  “Versa DLP uses advanced transformer models and fine-tuned Large Language Models (LLMs) to detect sensitive information across diverse document types and formats. Unlike traditional pattern matching, VersaONE applies contextual and behavioral analysis using spatial and temporal signals to differentiate legitimate data use from potential breaches,” the authors wrote. “This context-aware approach reduces false positives and dynamically applies predefined, policy-driven protections without disrupting normal business workflows.” In addition, the new version of VersaONE supports inline CASB…

Microsoft is strengthening default protections in Windows through two security initiatives, Windows Baseline Security Mode and User Transparency and Consent. User Transparency and Consent User Transparency and Consent introduces a structured approach to how Windows presents security decisions to users. The operating system will prompt users when applications request access to sensitive resources such as files, cameras, or microphones, and when installers attempt to add additional software. Permission decisions are recorded so they can be reviewed and changed later. Applications and AI agents are also expected to meet higher transparency standards. Windows Baseline Security Mode Windows Baseline Security Mode moves…

A newly documented Linux botnet named SSHStalker is using the IRC (Internet Relay Chat) communication protocol for command-and-control (C2) operations. The protocol was invented in 1988, and its adoption peaked during the 1990s, becoming the main text-based instant messaging solution for group and private communication. Technical communities still appreciate it for its implementation simplicity, interoperability, low bandwidth requirements, and no need for a GUI. The SSHStalker botnet relies on classic IRC mechanics such as multiple C-based bots and multi-server/channel redundancy instead of modern C2 frameworks, prioritizing resilience, scale, and low cost over stealth and technical novelty. According to researchers at…

Amazon Ring’s Super Bowl ad offered a vision of our streets that should leave every person unsettled about the company’s goals for disintegrating our privacy in public. The ad for Ring’s “Search Party” feature highlighted the doorbell camera’s ability to scan footage across Ring devices in a neighborhood, using AI…

Search engine optimization (SEO) was once defined by the number of keywords and synonyms scattered across your content. If you used the right word enough times, you’d rank. Those days are long gone. Since the launch of its Knowledge Graph in 2012, Google has been moving away from literal text matching toward deep semantic understanding.  Search engines no longer evaluate pages as collections of words. They evaluate meaning. This goes beyond Google and search engine results pages (SERPs). Modern discovery operates on entities—distinct people, places, brands, and concepts connected through context and relationships. Search systems now interpret queries by mapping…
