Ranking in Google’s top 10 is a weaker indicator of being cited in AI Overviews than it was last year, according to an updated Ahrefs analysis. The study examined 863,000 keywords and 4 million AI Overview URLs. It found that 38% of cited pages also appeared in the top 10 results for the same query. In Ahrefs’ previous version of this study from July, that number was 76%. The remaining citations are split almost evenly between results appearing in positions 11–100 (31.2%) and beyond position 100 (31.0%). What The Data Shows Ahrefs ran two versions of the analysis. Most local AI users assume that a bigger model is always better than smaller models. It is always expected that more parameters equal smarter outputs. I also had similar assumptions. For a long time, 7B models felt like entry-level, and I thought of upgrading to a larger model. The assumptions collapsed when I started testing both smaller and larger models in real-world projects. I pushed each model and compared how they performed under actual development pressure. Larger models didn’t always fix the workflow bottlenecks, though. The issues I observed were not about intelligence; they were about system design. Bigger models…

A phishing campaign is using a fake Google Account security page to deliver a web-based app capable of stealing one-time passcodes, harvesting cryptocurrency wallet addresses, and proxying attacker traffic through victims’ browsers. The attack leverages Progressive Web App (PWA) features and social engineering to deceive users into believing they are interacting with a legitimate Google Security web page and inadvertently installing the malware. PWAs run in the browser and can be installed from a website, just like a standalone regular application, which is displayed in its own window without any visible browser controls. Victim browser becomes attacker’s proxy The campaign…

A vulnerability in Chrome could have allowed malicious extensions to hijack the browser’s AI assistant to spy on users and exfiltrate data, Palo Alto Networks reports. Chrome’s side panel AI assistant, called Gemini Live, was designed to help users by summarizing content in real time, automatically executing specific tasks, and aiding with the contextual understanding of the active webpage. “By granting the AI direct, privileged access to the browsing environment, AI browsers are capable of performing complex, multi-step operations that were previously impossible or required several extensions and manual steps,” Palo Alto Networks explains. To function as intended, the AI…

The Google Ads platform is (and always has been) built on having lots of data available to advertisers. Whether it’s the number of clicks and conversions or the amount of revenue attributed to your campaigns, there’s always been a wealth of data to work with. The biggest challenge is knowing how to get to said data available in Google Ads and what to do with it. I want to run through some of the reports I use the most in Google Ads and talk about the takeaways I usually have so you can start making similar optimizations in your accounts.…

Just the Tip Sharing your vacation plans or location on public social media while you’re away is an open invitation to burglars. Keep travel off your feed until you’re back home, and strip geolocation data from photos before posting anything. Your security is worth more than the likes. Your home is most vulnerable when it’s empty and everyone knows it’s empty. Posting real-time travel updates on a public profile tells anyone watching exactly when to show up. This isn’t hypothetical. In October 2024, Patrick Mahomes’ and Travis Kelce’s homes were burglarized while both players were in New Orleans for a…
