    What you need to know

    • Samsung may finally bring faster charging speeds to its next-gen foldable phones, based on new regulatory filings.
    • The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Wide Fold are expected to support 45W charging, a first upgrade in nearly six years.
    • The Galaxy Z Flip 8 may stick to 25W charging, meaning no upgrade for Samsung’s clamshell foldable this year.

If the new leak is to be believed, we’re finally getting upgraded charging speeds on Samsung’s next-generation foldable devices.

While the battery capacity has remained the same at 5000 mAh, Samsung increased the charging speed of the Galaxy S26 Ultra from 45W on the Galaxy S25 Ultra to 60W this year. And it seems like Samsung isn’t stopping there, as a new leak claims the company will be increasing the charging speeds of its foldable phones as well.

SammyGuru spotted regulatory filings for the apparent Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Wide Fold on China’s 3C. It’s common for upcoming smartphones to appear in these filings ahead of launch, and aside from revealing model numbers, the listings also give us a look at the rumoured charging speeds.

According to the filings, both the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the company’s rumoured Wide Fold will feature 45W fast charging. If true, this would be the first time Samsung has increased the charging speed of its foldable phones in nearly six years. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 launched with 25W charging, which we’ve continued to see up to the Galaxy Z Fold 7. It looks like the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will finally bring an upgrade.

    Android Central’s take

I wonder what took Samsung so long, but the company seems to be on a spree to increase charging speeds this year. Hopefully, we’ll see even more devices with faster charging from the brand soon.

This would be in addition to the battery upgrade the foldable is also getting. As per a recent leak, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is rumoured to ship with a larger 5000mAh battery, which would be a big jump from the 4400mAh cell on the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

The combination of faster wired charging and a bigger battery could finally bring Samsung closer to the best foldable phones available right now.

If you were hoping for increased charging speeds on the company’s clamshell-style foldable, the Galaxy Z Flip 8, there’s some bad news. It’s listed with the same 25W charging speed as the Galaxy Z Flip 7, so no wired charging upgrades are expected there.
