Summary
- Mod shrinks GTA 5 from ~120 GB to 2.5 GB by cutting lots of content and assets.
- Many missions, maps, audio, and graphics were removed — the game runs, but looks like an early PS2 prototype.
- I’m skeptical it’s worth playing; the mod isn’t publicly linked and likely only for extreme space saving.
It’s no surprise that games have been taking up more and more space these days. The optimist in me wants to say it’s because we’re exploring bigger, more feature-rich, and more graphically intense worlds, but there is a pessimistic side that believes that, because we’re at a point where terabytes of data come easily, game developers just don’t put in much effort to squeeze their game down.
Fortunately, GTA 5 feels like the former. It’s 100 GB, sure, but it’s also a huge open world chock full with content that has kept people entertained even to this day. However, some people may find that 120 GB is just too big. Well, if you want to squeeze things down even further and you don’t mind missing a few features (well, a lot of features), this mod pushes the game all the way down to 2.5 GB.

Answering the question: “which GTA did it best?”
Getting Grand Theft Auto 5 down to 2.5 GB took a lot of sacrifices
And I’m not 100% sure it’s worth playing
As spotted by Notebook Check, modders have managed to squash GTA 5 from 120 GB to 2.5 GB. And as much as I’d love to report that the reduction was due to modders finding a highly efficient way to compress the game down to preserve every element of it, the truth is…a lot gets cut. Like, a lot.
You can see a video of the mod in the Synth Potato X post below. The post says the mod had to chop out missions, maps, and even some audio to keep the game’s size down. And then there’s the graphics, which somehow look like a prototype PlayStation 2 game. So, yeah, not going to be doing a playthrough with this any time soon.
The X post doesn’t reveal a way to download the mod, and honestly, I think this mod is probably better off left hidden. I’m not sure anyone would want to play a game like this. Now, if you want some mods that are actually worth downloading, we’ve covered the 10 most insane PC mods for Grand Theft Auto 5.
