Luxury sedans often come with premium price tags, but one Korean contender is changing expectations in 2025 by delivering upscale refinement at a surprisingly accessible cost. While brands like Lexus have long set the benchmark for comfort and quality, this model undercuts its pricier rivals without sacrificing the premium experience that buyers crave. For shoppers who want sophistication and value, it’s quickly becoming a compelling alternative in the luxury segment.

What sets this sedan apart is how well it blends quality and affordability. The cabin features high-grade materials, thoughtful ergonomics, and modern technology that feel right at home alongside more expensive competitors. On the road, it delivers a composed, comfortable ride that makes daily driving smooth and enjoyable, whether you’re commuting or heading out on a long road trip. Advanced safety systems and intuitive infotainment further elevate its appeal without forcing buyers into a higher price bracket.

For drivers who want the refined experience of a luxury sedan without the typical luxury pricing, this Korean model proves you don’t have to compromise. It’s premium in feel, sensible in cost, and a standout value in a market where smart spending matters more than ever.

In order to give you the most up-to-date and accurate information possible, the data used to compile this article was sourced from various manufacturer websites and other authoritative sources, including the EPA.

The 2026 Genesis G70 sports sedan starts cheaper than the Lexus IS

Cheaper, but also one of the best in its class

For a long time now, if you’ve been looking for a slightly cheaper luxury vehicle, Lexus has been the brand to go with. They are usually a couple thousand dollars cheaper than their rivals, even if that does mean making some small sacrifices along the way. However, Genesis is shaking things up. The G70 sports sedan is one of the most affordable options in this segment, but unlike Lexus, we don’t think it makes compromises to get there.

    3.3T Sport Prestige

    $56,900

The luxury compact sedan segment is packed with some pretty heavy hitters, though they all demand a pretty high price. While the G70 isn’t exactly cheap, it starts thousands lower than its core rivals. Even the traditionally affordable Lexus IS starts higher, with an MSRP of $46,795. Despite being so affordable, we think that Genesis’ sedan is one of the best options in this segment.

For the 2026 model year, Genesis has cut down options quite a bit. A ton of optional extras have been removed from the menu, but the only really disappointing exclusion is the adaptive dampers you could get on the 3.3T Prestige. The Korean automaker does make up for it in some ways, though. The Prestige Graphite trim joins the lineup with unique interior and exterior styling. A heated steering wheel is now standard on every model besides the rear-wheel drive 2.5T Standard. A surround-view camera is also now standard on top trims and optional on the 2.5T Prestige.

    Best value trim level

We don’t really think there is a bad value option, and picking a trim comes down to what features you want. If we were forced to pick, we’d go with the 3.3T Sport Prestige. It comes with the more powerful turbocharged V-6 as well as heated and ventilated leather seats, a sunroof, and a premium sound system. Going with this model also gives you the option of adding on a limited-slip differential, which isn’t an option if you stick with the four-cylinder models.

One of the key reasons that people choose to shop in this segment is that they’re looking for something a little sportier. While the Lexus IS isn’t a slouch, it feels far more relaxed than you’d expect from a compact sports sedan. Even though the G70 is cheaper, it feels like a more refined, more well-rounded luxury car, with the ability to be both calm and raucous.

Genesis offers you a choice of either a turbocharged four-cylinder engine or a twin-turbocharged V-6. Both pair with a traditional eight-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is the standard setup, with all-wheel drive optional on every model. We’d stick with rear-wheel drive, though, as we think it makes small sedans like this feel a lot more lively.

Neither setup puts the G70 in the same leagues as some of the segment’s top players in terms of acceleration, but if fun is what you’re after, then the Genesis definitely delivers. It feels perky enough, but what really impresses is just how dynamic it is. Its ride and handling are perfectly balanced, offering a smooth experience over most surfaces while also being capable of shredding up back roads. The adjustable drive modes allow you to totally change the personality of the G70, from comfortable cruiser to aggressive sports sedan.

Probably one of the biggest weaknesses of Hyundai products is their efficiency. While not impossible to live with, the G70 is one of the thirstiest options in this segment. Even if you stick with the four-cylinder option, you’ll be spending more on fuel than if you had opted for something like a BMW 3-Series. The V-6 guzzles gas even faster.

No one is delivering interior design quite as good as Genesis

We are currently seeing a massive wave in the luxury market where automakers are heavily investing in futuristic designs. Massive dual-screen setups taking up the entire dashboard and touch-sensitive panels everywhere you look are par for the course. In our eyes, the old-school approach that Genesis has taken feels far more luxurious. Depsite an older approach to design, we also think they offer some of the most interesting tech in their cars as well.

    Cargo capacity

    10.5 cubic feet

At the end of the day, the G70 is a compact sports sedan, so don’t expect a huge amount of practicality. While those up front will be plenty comfortable, those in the back seats might have a couple complaints. Cargo capacity is also on the low side for the segment, but there is still enough room for a grocery run or a couple weekend bags.

While design is subjective, we think that Genesis is creating some of the most nicely crafted interiors on the market. The G70 is the perfect example of this, with fine materials used on just about every surface. Build quality is fantastic, and the switchgear throughout the cabin feels solid. Things like Nappa leather upholstery, heated and ventilated seats, and dual-zone automatic climate control are all available.

    Infotainment and technology

The G70 uses a more traditional setup for its screens, with a separate digital gauge display and infotainment screen. The 10.3-inch infotainment screen rise up out of the dashboard and feels sleek and unintrusive. The gauge cluster is displayed on a high-definition 12.3-inch screen.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on every model. There are a couple of USB ports standard, with most models also getting a wireless smartphone charging pad. 3.3T models also come with the brand’s digital key functionality, which allows you to turn your smartphone into a key. Top trims also come equipped with a fantastic Lexicon sound system.
