A previously undocumented data-wiping malware dubbed Lotus was used last year in targeted attacks against energy and utilities organizations in Venezuela. The malware was uploaded to a publicly available platform in mid-December from a machine in Venezuela and has been analyzed by researchers at Kaspersky. Before the cripling stage, the attacker relies on two batch scripts that prepare the system for the final payload by weakening defenses and obstructing normal operations. According to the researchers, the Lotus data-wiping malware is designed to completely destroy compromised systems by overwriting physical drives and eliminating recovery options. “The wiper removes recovery mechanisms, overwrites the…

AI isn’t just changing search — it’s deciding which brands get ignored. At Adobe Summit today, Andrew Warden, CMO of Semrush, argued that visibility has fundamentally changed — and that brands now risk being systematically filtered out by AI systems. “The idea of standing out is no longer optional. The organization chose the latter. CSCS Associate Director Dr. Maria Grazia Giuffreda told the SUSEcon audience that the shift has freed up engineering capacity. “Because of SUSE Virtualization, we reduced the amount of time managing infrastructure by 70%,” she said. “You are freeing the time of very excellent engineers to take on new challenges rather than routine and boring work.” Conciatore noted, however, that CSCS didn’t abandon VMware. “We’re…

A researcher has analyzed internet-facing Perforce P4 servers and found that many are still misconfigured, exposing highly sensitive information.  Perforce P4 (formerly Helix Core) is a centralized version control platform built to handle the massive data requirements of industries like AAA gaming and semiconductor design. While P4 serves an important role, it can be valuable for threat actors if left unprotected.  Australian security researcher Morgan Robertson conducted an analysis of internet-exposed Perforce servers in the spring of 2025 and found 6,122 instances.  Of these servers, 72% provided unauthenticated read-only access to source code via a remote user account that had…

This is what I like to call a ghost citation: the AI using your content doesn’t mention you in the answer. This week, I’m sharing: Why being cited and being mentioned are two different outcomes that require different strategies. Which LLMs name brands vs. which treat them as anonymous source…
