CodeHunter is expanding its behavioral intent technology beyond traditional malware analysis to address supply chain risk and security decision-making across the software development lifecycle (SDLC). According to a recent Gartner report, “software supply chains transcend organizational boundaries and consist of external entities in addition to internal systems.” Gartner also warns that “improper artifact integrity validation allows attackers to poison the software delivery pipeline and compromise the software being delivered”. Originally built to overcome the limitations of signature-based malware detection, CodeHunter has focused from the outset on analyzing what software does, not just what it looks like. As automation, AI-generated malware,…

In these times of necessity, that old laptop gathering dust in your drawer isn’t just junk—it’s a goldmine. Those old hard drives might have a lot of life left in them. And I think you should do it too. Why your own old hard drives are a good idea Credit: Patrick Campanale / How-To Geek Salvaging storage from old, dead laptops is probably one of the most cost-effective strategies for expanding your digital capacity without spending a dime. Most people have a graveyard of old technology sitting in a drawer somewhere, often containing perfectly functional 2.5-inch hard drives or SSDs. These…

Apple has released security updates to fix a zero-day vulnerability that was exploited in an “extremely sophisticated attack” targeting specific individuals. Tracked as CVE-2026-20700, the flaw is an arbitrary code execution vulnerability in dyld, the Dynamic Link Editor used by Apple operating systems, including iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, watchOS, and visionOS. Apple’s security bulletin warns that an attacker with memory write capability may be able to execute arbitrary code on affected devices. Apple says it is aware of reports that the flaw, along with the CVE-2025-14174 and CVE-2025-43529 flaws fixed in December, were exploited in the same incidents. “An attacker…

Prime Video just wrapped up the second season of Fallout, its post-apocalyptic drama based on the Fallout video games that have been coming out since 1997. Our heroes (such as they are) found themselves in New Vegas, a dilapidated shell of the city it once was, but still full of people who love a good bet. Will they return order to the wasteland? Will the Ghoul (Walton Goggins) find his family? We won’t get the answers to those questions for a good long while, since producing a new season of a show this complicated takes time. But in the meanwhile,…

Surveillance technology vendors, federal agencies, and wealthy private donors have long helped provide local law enforcement “free” access to surveillance equipment that bypasses local oversight. The result is predictable: serious accountability gaps and data pipelines to other entities, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), that expose millions of people to harm. The cost of “free” surveillance tools — like automated license plate readers (ALPRs), networked cameras, face recognition, drones, and data aggregation and analysis platforms — is measured not in tax dollars, but in the erosion of civil liberties.  The cost of “free” surveillance tools is measured not in tax…

Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the practice of positioning your brand and content so that AI platforms like Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and Perplexity cite, recommend, or mention you when users search for answers. If that sounds abstract, the results aren’t. For bootstrapped form builder tool, Tally, ChatGPT became the #1 referral source. They’re not alone. Across industries, the shift is already measurable. ChatGPT reaches over 800 million weekly users. Google’s Gemini app has surpassed 750 million monthly users. And AI Overviews are appearing in at least 16% of all searches (significantly higher for comparison and high-intent queries).  The question…

However, so far the botnet hasn’t done much other than maintaining persistence on infected machines. It has the ability to launch DDoS (distributed denial of service) attacks and conduct cryptomining, but hasn’t done anything yet to monetize its access. That, Flare says, suggests either the operator is still staging the botnet’s infrastructure, is in a testing phase, or is maintaining access for future use. The good news for CSOs, according to Flare cybersecurity researcher Assaf Morag, is that at this point there’s one way to stop this particular botnet cold: Disable SSH password authentication to Linux machines and replace it…
