Taylor Sheridan is hanging up his cowboy hat and entering the video game world for a new project at Paramount. Sheridan is best known for creating the Yellowstone empire and all of its spin-offs. However, Sheridan’s new movie will be an adaptation of Call of Duty.

During Thursday’s presentation at CinemaCon, Paramount announced Call of Duty, the highly anticipated feature film adaptation of Activision’s first-person shooter video game franchise. Peter Berg will direct from a screenplay he co-wrote with Sheridan. The movie hits theaters on June 30, 2028.

Call of Duty is one of the biggest video game franchises of all time, with over 500 million copies sold globally. After years of rumors, Paramount signed a film deal with Activision in September 2025, paving the way for a Call of Duty movie. It’s the latest big swing from David Ellison, whose Paramount Skydance has entered a merger agreement to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery for approximately $110 billion.

Sheridan and Berg have ample experience crafting action and military movies. Sheridan penned the scripts for Sicario, Hell or High Water, and Wind River. Hell or High Water landed an Oscar nomination. As for Berg, he famously directed Lone Survivor, a harrowing war drama based on the life of Marcus Luttrell and his involvement as a Navy SEAL in the 2005 Operation Red Wings during the War in Afghanistan.

No casting announcements for Call of Duty were made, and the plot remains under wraps.

    Taylor Sheridan’s future at Paramount

    The end is near

Sheridan is one of the most prolific television creators working today, if not the most prolific. Only Dick Wolf comes to mind as someone who can match Sheridan’s output. After Yellowstone became a smash hit on Paramount Network, Sheridan essentially had the freedom to create whatever he wanted for the company’s streaming service.

Sheridan’s long list of Paramount+ shows includes 1883, 1923, Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, Lioness, and Landman. His most recent offering, The Madison, received a season 3 order ahead of the sophomore season’s premiere.

Despite his involvement with Paramount, Sheridan shocked Hollywood by departing for NBCUniversal. In October 2025, Sheridan reportedly signed a five-year deal that begins after his Paramount agreement expires in 2026 for film and in 2028 for television.

It’s a seismic shift in the television landscape. NBCUniversal is hoping Sheridan can create the next Yellowstone for NBC and Peacock once his deal expires.

Sheridan’s shows at Paramount+ will remain on the service. Some might even continue without his involvement. Dutton Ranch, a Yellowstone sequel and spin-off, premieres next month on Paramount+. Sheridan created the main characters for Dutton Ranch, but he only serves as an executive producer on the show.
