    What you need to know

    • Google is previewing Gemini 3.1 Pro, with a focus on complex, multi-step problem-solving that stumps most chatbots.
    • The model scored 77.1% on the ARC-AGI-2 benchmark — more than double the reasoning performance of Gemini 3.0 Pro.
    • You can use it across the Gemini app, NotebookLM, Vertex AI, and the Gemini API.

A few months after launching Gemini 3.0, Google is now previewing Gemini 3.1 Pro. This new model is designed to tackle complex, multi-step problems that most chatbots still find challenging.

This upgrade comes soon after Google launched its Deep Think features, which expanded the platform’s use in research, engineering, and science. Gemini 3.1 Pro is the intelligence behind these advances, and Google is now bringing it to consumer apps, developer tools, and enterprise platforms all at once.

You can already use Gemini 3.1 Pro in the Gemini app, NotebookLM, Vertex AI, and the Gemini API. Google wants this model available wherever people work and create.

    Reasoning is the main upgrade

The main upgrade is better reasoning. Gemini 3.1 Pro can handle tasks like combining large datasets, explaining complex ideas with visuals, and solving problems that need several steps instead of just one prompt and reply.

Benchmarks suggest this is more than just marketing. Google says the model scored 77.1% on ARC-AGI-2, a test for abstract reasoning and new logic patterns. That’s more than double the score of the previous Gemini 3 Pro version.

How the model works behind the scenes is just as important. Gemini 3.1 Pro focuses on agentic behavior, so it can use tools, plan multi-step workflows, and complete tasks on its own instead of always needing user input. This change supports better assistants, smarter coding, and more dynamic apps.

For developers, Gemini 3.1 Pro is not just smarter; it also works better in real-world situations. Early previews show better coding results, more autonomous task handling, and improved edit-then-test cycles that cut down on the number of tool calls needed to solve problems.

The model can also create complex simulations, interactive dashboards, and complete digital environments. This shows that Google is moving Gemini beyond just text and into building full applications.

Google says feedback from preview users will help guide future updates. Gemini 3.1 Pro is launching through Google AI subscriptions and developer platforms, making it both a productivity boost for regular users and a powerful tool for businesses and researchers.

The bigger story is where things are headed. Gemini is gradually changing from a chatbot into a problem-solving layer that runs throughout Google’s ecosystem, including Search, Workspace, developer tools, and creative apps.

    Android Central’s Take

I think that’s the real benefit. In my view, Gemini 3.1 Pro marks a practical move toward assistants that help you think, not just reply. Its better reasoning and agent-like features could save time, lower mental effort, and make it easier to automate complex tasks.

This is where things get interesting. To me, Gemini 3.1 Pro shows that Google realizes smarter chat alone is not enough. The real value comes from AI that can actually work through complex tasks, not just make confident guesses.

If the better reasoning and agent-style features deliver, users could spend less time managing prompts and more time doing real work, which is the main goal. I like this direction: AI working in the background, handling complex tasks without needing constant help. If Google keeps this up, we might finally get assistants that feel like real tools people can depend on.
